Physical activity referral in Stockport
![]()
Stockport MBC and Stockport PCT run a joint initiative called the PARiS Scheme (Physical Activity Referral in Stockport).
It allows various types of supervised physical activity at a discounted price and is available in certain areas of the borough, concentrating on areas of highest deprivation and severe health inequalities, including Reddish, Brinnington, Adswood, Edgeley, Heaton Moor, Heaton Norris and Cheadle. PARIS also runs community exercise classes throughout stockport.
Referral onto the scheme is through GP’s or other medical professionals who complete a PARiS referral form then arrange for you an initial consultation with a member of the PARiS team. PARiS focuses on meeting the needs of patients who are described as being at medium risk of a number of chronic diseases or who currently suffer from certain conditions, such as Obesity, CHD/ Stroke, Diabetes and COPD.
You can become a member of PARiS for one year and throughout that time you are closely supported and encouraged to attend regular follow-up’s to ensure you are gaining the most health benefits from your activity. As well as physical activity support, advice is also offered in many other areas of health and well being.
