Walking in Stockport
Walking is set to play a bigger role in creating a healthier nation. Described by health experts as 'almost perfect exercise', walking requires no equipment or expense and is the ideal way for most people to become more active. Seven out of every ten people in this country are not physically active enough to benefit their health. Find out more about Walking the Way to Health Initiative.
In stockport we have a number of guided walking schemes. They include the Walking for Health Programme which is aimed at people who may not have been active for some time or who may have a health condition which would benefit from physical activity. The walks take a gentle to moderate pace and there are a number of possible routes from 10-45 minutes in duration. You can increase the length and intensity of your walks as you get fitter and more confident. There are two walk leaders on each walk so different needs can be accommodated.
