Exercise on Referral in Stockport

The positive relationship between physical activity and mental health has been well documented recently. Now more than ever, research is showing that even a small amount of moderate level physical activity such as walking or cycling, can have profound effects on well being and the enhancement of positive mood.

Regular exercise can provide the following benefits:

  • Psychological
  • Reduce stress
  • Improve well being
  • Release endorphins – the body’s ‘feel good’ chemicals
  • Allow ‘time out’ for oneself

You don’t have to be an athlete to be fit. Your fitness level should compliment your lifestyle, for example, having enough energy to climb stairs or have a brisk walk and cope well with day to day tasks.

Try and make small changes in your lifestyle to accommodate more fitness based activity into your daily routine, like getting off the bus a stop early, using the stairs instead of the elevator or washing the car by hand.

Just think how great it would be to feel full of beans and not down in the dumps, or to be able to keep up with the kids and surprise them? Fitness is an essential part of health and should be fun. It is NEVER too late to start and easier than you think!

PARiS and A.C.E. are specialist support lines available if you are interested in starting an exercise program. There are currently a wide variety of classes and physical activity opportunities available that cater for all people; from those who exercise regularly, to those who have never exercised or have difficulty exercising for a number of reasons.

Some participants have reported:

“the closed PARiS sessions are great because you have to get up to go to them and all the members help each other as they are all in the same boat”

“this is the best thing I have ever done for myself!”
